Y2K? 20 Years Ago! And, 10,000 Gadgets for Learning?

RE: Y2K? Just 20 Years Ago!  What Did We Learn?

In a few hours it will be midnight on New Year’s Eve 2020! But, 20 years ago, what were you doing at midnight for Y2K?

Billions of dollars and millions of hours of prep went into a worldwide focus and anxiety about the dangers of “old” computer code failing when the year changed from 1999 to 2000!

I spent that evening at the MASIE Center LAB - monitoring reports from our Learning CONSORTIUM member companies around the world - hoping that elevators would still run, email would continue to work, and airplanes would not crash.

It is intriguing to remember the Y2K experiences we all had. Send me a note to emasie@masie.com with a few of your memories from the Y2K ramp up and relief when we were relieved after midnight.

I wonder if we will ever have that degree of world and corporate focus on an impending danger. Personally, I wonder if we will ever see a global focus on Y2CLIMATE?

Elliott Updates from CES Gadget and Consumer Electronics Show:

I will be heading to Las Vegas next week to cover the Consumer Electronics Show for Learning TRENDS and our CONSORTIUM. There are almost 10,000 new technologies announced and exhibited and over 175,000 attendees.

We will be exploring the increasing role that Consumer Electronics and Emerging Tech (AI, Machine Learning, Automation, and Sensing) will have on the learning field. I will report on announcements about 5G, Facial Recognition, Smart Tech, and More - all from the Learning perspective.

Every day we will send updates to the Learning TRENDS readers. I would love to hear about some of your big questions about changing technology. Just send me an email to emasie@masie.com

1032 - Hello from Korea & China; Consumer Electronics, 2020 Excitement

Elliott Masie’s Learning TRENDS - December 24, 2019
#1,032 Updates on Learning, Business & Technology Since 1997.
58,575 Readers - www.masie.com - The MASIE Center.
Host: Curation & Learning LAB: Feb 4 to 6, 2020 - Saratoga Springs, NY.

Hello from the Seoul, Korea Airport.

In a few minutes, I will be returning to the United States after an intense 10 days in China and Korea - exploring the future of technology, learning, data, automation, and teachers.

I will write an in-depth note in the days ahead, sharing perspectives and a project that the Elliott Masie Learning CONSORTIUM will be coordinating in Asia and the US, to experiment with models for connecting AI (and smarter tech) with workplace learning.

I would like to personally thank the tens of thousands of learning and business colleagues that are TRENDS readers for your connection and great ideas. I am quite blessed to have a global network of experienced, rising, and brand new colleagues exploring learning, technology, and changing business models.

In 2020, I will be focusing on the intersection of our changing tech with EveryDay Learning. How do we design and produce resources that leverage the scalability of our growing organizations with data to drive personalization and learning moments every day?

I wish each of you and your teams and family wonderful Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year and other holidays.

Here is a link to a song that always moves to me to smiles, written by my friend Peter Yarrow, of Peter Paul and Mary. “Light One Candle” is a message that we need to absorb and honor:
