1. Meetups Meet Learning - Let’s Connect! Imagine if your organization had a robust daily list of employee “Learning MeetUps” that would be 1 to 2 hour gatherings - at lunch time or during a segment of the day - when 2 to 30 people gathered with the same interest or learning requirement.

For example, the list for tomorrow might include:

- Learning MeetUp for New Salespeople Representing the Alpha Product Line.
- Learning MeetUp for Recent Relocated Employees to Headquarters.
- Learning MeetUp for Folks Improving their Conversational Spanish.
- Learning MeetUp for Understanding New Due Diligence Statute.

These MeetUps would be organized in two ways: either a location where folks could get together for 60 to 120 minutes and support each other’s learning or a shared video space where the same thing might happen globally across the enterprise. Some MeetUps might happen just once, some could have a weekly occurrence or even be on demand.

There are no formal agendas and the participants would rate the value on a 1 to 5 scale.  And, MeetUps would start or go away as situations and requirements change. They are user organized and user shaped.

There is an existing MeetUp site and organization that is sponsoring this process in communities around the world. But, what if we took it inside and extended the MeetUp model as an extended part of the learning atmosphere?

We are so intrigued with this idea that I am adding it to Learning 2013, where we will have a room set up for Learning MeetUps throughout the conference. There will be no agendas but a few sentences outlining what this group could achieve in collaborative conversations. Stay tuned for details and our findings.

2. 100 Perspectives On Learning - New List: Talking about content for Learning 2013, our design team is now in the final 10 days of curating and developing an agenda for over 140 sessions. Today, we posted a list of the almost 100 organizations that have employees who are leading, facilitating, collaborating or teaching at one of these sessions. These are sessions with learning stories, design challenges, 360 views of a learning process or a great debate about a key issue. Check out the list and a sample of the session topics at: http://learning2013.com/blog/item/presenters.html  Soon, as the Program Guide goes to press, we will post a complete agenda for Learning 2013. We now have 1,079 colleagues registered and dozens more signing up every day at http://www.learning2013.com

3. Hash Tags at Work - Social Tagging for Context: The Hash Tag or # sign in front of a few words got popular on Twitter and was recently adopted and embraced by Facebook. We are now seeing #tags being integrated into content at the workplace. For example, as a colleague posts a comment in a shared or social setting like Jive or SharePoint, they may choose to use a current tag and add #policychanges or they may add their own tag with a context or emotion such as #ohmyyy or #SeptemberCycle. One can then either sort on these tags or set up a scroll that shows items with selected tags. There is a mixture of organizational tags in a sort of taxonomy of tagging or “social tags” that come from the individual user and may or may not be adopted by others. Watch for tags as I add my Elliott tag: #trendscan :)
