Note to Learning and Training Colleagues on Sputnik

TO: Learning and Training Colleagues

Fifty years ago, Sputnik was launched into space by the U.S.S.R.

I was seven at the time and still have clear memories of listening to the sounds from this satellite in space on a ham radio headset. The launching of Sputnik triggered much activity in the world of science and foreign policy. Some even link the launch of Sputnik to the start of the rise of global technology.

Take a few minutes and listen to the sounds that we heard 50 years ago as Sputnik circled the earth:
