1. MagicBands by Disney at Learning 2013: Many of the participants at our Learning conference to be held in Orlando on November 3rd will be wearing new MagicBand wristbands from Disney. These optional RFID bands are being rolled out to the Disney Properties and the Learning 2013 crew is being invited to be a test and feedback group. Participants will have the option of being some of the first people at Disney to receive a wearable, personalized, RFID wristband that can be used to access their room, charge in the gift shops, access health clubs and other elements. And, if they plan to add some time to visit Disney Parks, the “MagicBand” will allow them to pre-select FastPass and optimize/personalize the experience.
Clearly, this is the next step in Disney’s digital approach to personalization and targeted customer service. Someday, meetings will have the option of using these types of devices to allow 30 second conference registrations. And, they can even be used to certify time in a compliance based workshop. This year, Learning 2013 won’t be using the MagicBands in our processes, but we are interested in working with Disney to get feedback, ideas and advice on how these technologies may shape meetings in the future. 3. A Time to Kill - Drama Opens on Broadway: As you may know, I am also a producer of Broadway plays and musicals. I am very excited that John Grisham’s A Time to Kill is in previews and about to open in New York City. It is a powerful thriller about justice and what each of us might do when something horrible happens to our child. Tom Skeritt and Senator Fred Thompson are two of a great ensemble cast, performing on a stage that will take you right into the courtroom drama.
