1. Susan Peters, GE - Lifetime Achievement Award! We are pleased to announce that we will honor Susan Peters, GE’s Vice President of HR and the former CLO, with the Learning 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. Susan and her teams at GE are actively involved in transforming learning and leadership for their 320,000 employees around the globe. Recently, Susan led an update of their Crotonville campus, focusing on new mixes of learning and development for the leaders in GE.

Susan will be featured at Learning 2013, where I will interview her on the learning and development shifts that GE has been creating. We will also have a live video feed from Crotonville where there are many fascinating new features and facilities, including a leadership “barn” that hosts interactive sessions and has an executive kitchen where the rising leaders cook together as part of their program.

Check out my blog and background of Susan Peters (one of the most impressive learning leaders that I have ever met) at http://www.learning2013.com/blog/item/susan-peters-ge-keynote-award.html

2. Lead/Teach/Facilitate at Learning 2013! We love to involve our Learning TRENDS colleagues as facilitators, leaders and storytellers at Learning 2013.  This year, we have formats that include 99 Second Talks, 60 Minute Design Brainstorms, Great Debates, Step-by-Step and even Pecha Kucha - 20 slides, 20 seconds each for Storytelling. We would love to have you raise your hand with an idea that you would like to lead (small or large). It must be non-commercial and we are always excited about both practical results and innovative breakthroughs.

3. A Book to Read - Present Shock by Douglas Rushkoff: Just finished a book that you should try to read - “Future Shock: When Everything Happens Now” by Douglas Rushkoff. He relates the Ups, Downs and Uncertainties of operating in an “instant” world. Here is a quote that forced me wide awake:

“If the end of the 20th Century can be characterized by futurism, the twenty-first can be characterized by presentism.”

Personal Note: Wish me well. Tomorrow is the first day of Horse Racing in Saratoga! MASIE Stable’s “Collaborator” will ready to run in about a week. Stay tuned!

Yours in learning,
