1. Quick - Change Those NASCAR Tires, Safely! A NASCAR Pit Crew will be set up outside the hotel at Learning 2013. Participants will be suited up in safety jumpers and trained in how to work as a team of 8 on changing the tires of a NASCAR vehicle - safely and quickly. Some teams will get the tires changed in under a minute. Power wrenches, car lifts and new tires will be part of the skills participants will learn.  And, our Pit Crew coaches will video tape each attempt, providing collaboration and technical skill feedback. We will have prizes for the best corporate teams and random teams. And, our 30 Under 30 Team Members will compete against our Learning Veterans.

Why? Learning and collaboration with a physical and competitive task is a great way to step into skilling in a new way. At a NASCAR Race, the final margin may be less than 12 seconds between the first two cars. So, time for pit crew change is critical and deeply depends on team cooperation. Check out the story and pictures for our no-cost Pit Crew Learning 2013 Adventure at: http://www.learning2013.com/blog/item/pitcrew2.html

2. Collaborator, Masie Horse, Races Today: While on the topic of racing, today is an exciting day for me. Collaborator, one of the MASIE Center thoroughbred horses, is racing in historic Saratoga Springs in the 4th race. He is a 3 year old horse and his is a special race for “maidens” who have never won. He will go 1 mile on the grass, competing with 11 other great thoroughbreds.  Am I nervous and excited, yes! My goals: may it be a healthy race for him and may his performance improve. Wish him well. You can send a note to emasie@masie.com and I will pass on your wishes in the paddock area before the race. Pictures of him and the racetrack are at: http://www.masie.com/collaborator-8-12-13.html

3. Chromecast from Google Opens Up Classroom Graphics: One of the technologies we are playing with at our Learning LAB is a small device that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port, allowing anyone with a mobile device to display video or other content with permissions. We are configuring some classrooms here at The MASIE Center with Chromecast to mock up how learners in a session could easily share personalized content with the entire group. The price is right at $35 and it appears to give real “affordances” to teachers, trainers, designers and learners - in both classrooms and meetings. Details at: http://www.google.com/chromecast

Note: Our Learning 2013 participants are quickly filling the rooms at Disney’s Coronado Springs Hotel. Please register early. You can make your registration for Learning 2013, receive the Early Discounts and request invoicing and payment later. Details at http://www.learning2013.com
